"Unforgiving Trials: The Darkest Crusade" Development Diary, entry 1.

Hello and welcome to the first entry in our development diary for "Unforgiving Trials: The Darkest Crusade". Hopefully after reading it you will have a firm grasp on our upcoming old school RPG.
Our game is a throwback to the good old times of the golden RPG era. Firmly believing that game mechanics and level design are the most important part of a game we set forth on our game developing journey. Inspired by the old Final Fantasy series and Oregon Trail we strive to create a true spiritual successor to the old school RPG adventure genre.
Our game will be designed as a series of battle-zones with unforgiving combat difficulty, where every encounter is in itself a puzzle for the player to solve. Before venturing into these zones the player will have to form a party of four brave adventurers by choosing from a rich pool of characters each fitting a different standard role with a unique twist. Each class has a unique battle mechanic that gives the player to tackle their encounters in a different manner. After forming the fellowship the  player sets forth upon a journey trough cursed forests, unforgiving wastelands, barren caves and many more hostile locations. The player will face numerous bosses that have different combat styles challenging the player to adapt or face certain annihilation. Death is permanent in this game and every bad move could spiral to the ultimate defeat of the party. The player is required to manage his inventory and party members in order to prepare for the upcoming challenges that will face him. We want the player to be truly afraid of what comes next, no more shall players be nurtured and paraded trough a field of flowers. Our game does not hold the players hand, talking to NPCs and discovering secrets on their own is a necessity in order to beat this game. And above all else we strive for a challenging but fair experience that will throw the player to an older age of gaming where only the skilled saw the credit screen. Our game is currently in early alpha and as soon as we find  the golden ratio of challenging gameplay the game will be released. Some of our current features include:

Features:
  • Over 10 different classes
  • More than 20 recruitable characters
  • 500+ skills
  • 100+ unique enemies
  • 30 different battle zones with their own bosses and mini bosses
Stay tuned to our twitter account and please share if our project peaked your interest,
Happy adventuring.
